OCF/Biodynamics

The practice of Osteopathy in the Cranial Field is based upon the work of W G Sutherland. Dr Sutherland discovered subtle movements in the fluids and tissues of his patients. He called this phenomenon the primary respiratory mechanism (PRM).

Dr Jim Jealous the founder of Biodynamics, discovered a correlation and parallel between the work of Dr Sutherland and the studies of Embryologist, Dr Blechschmidt, recognising that the natural forces that created the embryo are also the forces of growth and development, and the sustaining restorative forces throughout life.

This is the most subtle of Osteopathic technique styles and yet, in my experience as an Osteopath, may be the most far reaching of all. While this topic is covered in undergraduate study, the considerable level of skill and experience required can generally only be gained through extensive post-graduate study and practice, and is enhanced by the integrated clinical reasoning skills learnt in the formal university setting. Using this approach to treatment, we aim to empower the self-healing capacity of the body and it's innate ability to move towards homeostasis.

Despite the clinical success, the effectiveness of OCF/Biodynamics has not been substantiated.
